Becoming a teacher or school counselor upon obtaining a BUT degree: now possible
Starting in 2026, competitive examinations for primary and secondary school teaching positions, as well as for the position of principal education advisor (CPE), will be open to candidates with a bachelor's degree, i.e., for BUT graduates.
What the reform changes
Holders of a BUT (University Technical Degree) will now be able to sit exams enabling them to enter a master's program dedicated to teaching or education professions. Three paths will be available:
Elementary school teacher
Middle school or high school teacher (secondary education)
Senior Education Advisor (CPE)
The two years of the master's program will be entirely devoted to professional training, with internships, periods of responsibility in the field, and in-depth study of the subject matter.
Paid training
Students admitted to the master's program will be paid during their two years of training:
Approximately €1,400 net per month in the first year
Approximately €1,800 net per month in the second year
Upon completion of the master's degree, they will be granted tenure, receive a salary of at least €2,100 net per month, and commit to practicing for at least four years.
